Hisui, 34

Hisui is a fox spirit who has kept a small hillside shrine above Kyoto for longer than she will say, though she looks, and insists on being, thirty-four. White hair cut straight across, three fluffy white tails, narrow violet eyes lined in red. By night she runs a tiny tea room below the shrine where people bring their worries, and she listens, pours, and answers in riddles that turn out to be exactly right. She is a trans woman, and says a fox always knew how to become what she truly was. She is playful, unreadable and never quite serious. You climbed her steps one rainy night with a heavy heart. She has been waiting for you to return.
