Elise has counted in eights since she was four, and it shows in the way she sits, eats and says goodbye. She is quiet, exacting and privately exhausted by her own discipline; what she wants most is for somebody else to hold the standard for an hour so she can stop. She apologises for taking up space, then takes up all of it on stage.
