New on myVirtual.love: Men, Trans and Semi-Realistic Anime

In the last week of September, 162 new characters arrived on myVirtual.love. The roster now holds 240. For the first time it includes men, realistic and anime, plus trans women drawn both ways. The Anime page also gained a second look, semi-realistic, for anyone who likes anime faces but wants the pictures closer to a photograph.

Here is what is new, where each section lives and the few things that are not ready yet.

The roster at a glance

All four sections sit in the top navigation. Every character is an adult. Every card opens on a situation: who they are, what they do and how the two of you met. If nobody on a page fits, the first card on each page is "Create your own", which takes you to Create to build a companion from scratch.

40 new women on the Girls page

The Girls page has doubled, from 40 realistic women to 80. The new forty run from 18 to 45. Most of them arrive in the middle of a situation that already has some tension in it.

• Veronika, 45, owns your building and a small property empire. Her card warns that if you are late with the rent again, she may end up owning you too.
• Monica, 41, runs a boutique real-estate agency, drinks Sancerre and is married to your best friend.
• Bianca, 34, is head bartender at a late-night dive bar. She will roast your drink order, then drive you home and talk until the sun comes up.
• Tasha, 31, teaches yoga and does her sunrise practice on the balcony next to yours. "She's noticed you noticing."
• Chloe, 29, is the executive assistant who runs your diary, your coffee order and your life.
• Jasmine, 27, works twelve-hour nights in the emergency room, three coffees deep, with "the gentlest hands in the ER. Mostly gentle."
• Zoe, 20, is your new roommate, a game streamer and digital artist who is up until 4 am and steals your hoodies.

Eight of the new forty are in their mid-thirties or older, which helps if you have been scrolling for someone closer to your own age.

Semi-realistic anime: a new look on the Anime page

Until late September, every woman on the Anime page was drawn the classic way, with clean outlines and flat colour. The twelve new ones are semi-realistic. They keep anime faces and proportions, while their skin, the light on them and the fabric they wear look much closer to a photograph.

The look suits two kinds of reader. Some like anime but find the classic style too much like a cartoon for someone they talk to every night. Others prefer realistic women but miss the faces anime draws. Semi-realistic sits between the two. Our comparison of anime and realistic companions covers what each style does well.

Three of the twelve:

• Darina, 25, a professional dominatrix who runs a private club. "Kneel. She will tell you when you have earned the right to look up."
• Marlene, 31, bored in a penthouse. "She has everything money can buy. She wants the one thing it can't."
• Momo, 28, a private nurse sent by the agency, who makes house calls. "The check-up never stays medical for long."

The Anime page has no filter for the look yet, so you find them by eye. In the grid they are easy to spot.

To build one yourself, open Create, pick Girl and then Anime. The next step, Anime Look, offers two cards: Anime or Semi-Realistic. The rest of the anime build follows as before:

• Species: Human, Elf, Catgirl, Foxgirl, Dragon Girl, Succubus, Angel or Vampire
• Skin tone: the usual range plus ash grey, lavender, crimson and emerald
• Hair: anime styles such as twintails, a hime cut, drills or a side ponytail, in colours up to silver, teal and lavender
• Eyes: crimson, gold, purple, rose or heterochromia among them

The Studio offers the same choice. If you describe an anime woman or an anime trans woman without picking a character, a Look row appears with Anime and Semi-realistic.

Guys: 70 men, realistic and anime

The Guys page is new: 40 realistic men and 30 anime men, aged 24 to 52. You can filter by style, by ethnicity, by Athletic, Demons or Fantasy and by hair colour, silver included.

The realistic men cover a wide range of ages and jobs:

• Richard, 48, a London investment CEO and your married boss, with silver hair, bespoke suits and a reason for you to stay late.
• Alejandro, 52, a married Spanish gentleman with a vineyard, a wooden yacht and the whole summer to win you over.
• Mike, 43, the married handyman next door. His wife is away for two weeks and your sink "has never needed him more."
• Dave, 38, a divorced mechanic with his own two-bay garage, soft around the middle and always cooking too much brisket for one.
• Andre, 35, a chef and restaurant owner who "cooks for the whole city, but tonight he is tasting for you."
• Mateo, 29, a firefighter-paramedic who finds telling you how he feels scarier than a burning building.
• Jake, 24, the sunburnt carpenter next door with a nail gun and a dented pickup.

The anime men are drawn in the classic style and lean into the types anime fans already know: swordsmen, sorcerers, ninjas, pirates, detectives and a demon or two.

To build your own, pick Man on Create. His steps run in this order:

• Style: Realistic or Anime
• Ethnicity: Asian, Black, Latino, Arab or Caucasian
• Age: anywhere from 18 to 60
• Hair, eyes and facial hair: eight hair styles, four eye colours and five kinds of facial hair, from clean-shaven and stubble to a beard, goatee or mustache
• Body type: average, skinny, athletic, muscular or heavyset
• Extra details: up to 300 characters for anything every picture of him should show
• The cards: personality, relationship, occupation and kinks

Trans: 40 women, realistic and anime

The Trans page holds 40 trans women, 20 realistic and 20 anime, aged 22 to 40. On Create, Trans sits next to Girl and Man and runs the full set of women's steps, the Voice card included. Voice calls work with trans companions the same way they do with the women.

• Ploy, 24, a Muay Thai trainer at an old gym in Bangkok who will wrap your hands and fix your guard.
• Katya, 29, a principal ballerina in Berlin who "melts only after the curtain."
• Mikan, 29, an anime catgirl who runs a sleepy secondhand bookshop and is already your wife.
• Ibara, 28, an oni who owns a boxing gym in Osaka, trains you hard and walks you home.
• Aveline, 29, a knight who fell through a portal into your hallway and now lives on your couch.

What is not ready yet

Four things to know before you pay:

• Voice calls with men. Calls work with women and trans women, at 5 hearts a minute on paid plans. With the men you talk in text and photos for now. The Man build has no Voice card.
• Semi-realistic men. The new look is for anime women and anime trans women. The anime men are drawn in the classic style only.
• Trans men. The Trans section is built for trans women.
• Video, on any plan.

What it costs

No section has a price of its own. The plans on our pricing page cover all four:

1. Open the section you came for and read the first ten cards. Start with the one whose situation you want to hear more about.
2. If you came for anime but found the classic look too flat, look for the semi-realistic women on the Anime page, or build one with Anime Look set to Semi-Realistic.
3. If nobody fits, open Create, choose Girl, Man or Trans and set the personality and relationship before you spend long on hair.
