The 10 Hottest Video Game Characters

Ten characters, counted down from ten to one. The ranking is not about who is drawn best.

It is about how much of the attraction survives once you take the design away — how much of it was written rather than modelled. The order runs roughly from the characters carried by how they look to the ones who would still work in a plain uniform.

10. Eve, Stellar Blade

Eve is the honest place to start because the intent is on the record. Hyung-Tae Kim's team set out to build the most attractive protagonist they could and used body scans to do it.

IGN France's preview called her bland and said she was a doll sexualized by someone who has never seen a woman, which IGN later apologised for as out of place. The criticism was rude and it was pointing at something real. Eve is beautifully made and there is not much of her underneath.

That is not a flaw in the game. Stellar Blade is a combat game and she is built to read instantly in motion. But she is the clearest case on this list of design doing the entire job, which is why she opens it rather than closes it.

9. Lara Croft

The franchise ran the experiment for us.

The 1996 Lara was polygonal shorthand for sex appeal and almost nothing else. The 2013 reboot took the shorthand away and replaced it with fear, exhaustion, competence and a voice that sounded like a person under pressure. She got more attractive, not less. The audience that grew up on the original mostly agreed.

If attractiveness were really about the body, that redesign should have failed. It did the opposite.

8. Tifa Lockhart

The 1997 Tifa is an icon in the way a poster is an icon. The Remake is where she becomes a character: the hesitation before she answers a direct question, the childhood she will not discuss, the loyalty that visibly costs her something.

Nothing about the design changed in any way that matters. What changed is that there is now someone in there. The 1997 version would not have made this list at all. The difference is script pages.

7. 2B

Restraint does the whole job here. She wears a blindfold, holds herself formally and operates under a rule that forbids her from having feelings about what she is ordered to do.

And then she has them anyway.

2B is the first entry here where the thing you are drawn to is an internal conflict rather than a presentation. The design is famously strong, but strip it back to a plain uniform and the character survives intact, which is not true of any entry that came before her.

6. Panam Palmer

Panam argues with you. Handle something badly and she gets angry. Cyberpunk 2077 makes the anger stick rather than dissolving it by the next scene.

Anyone can be appealing while agreeing with you. Appeal that survives a real disagreement is built out of something sturdier. She is the first entry on this list who behaves like an actual relationship rather than a well-written crush.

5. Triss Merigold

She still lands at five, because this list is ranking the romance rather than the CV.

The Triss route is written to be comfortable. She is warm, she is available, she forgives fast and she wants what you want. Yennefer at four does none of those things. On an axis that measures friction and the capacity to be disappointed in you, being the easy option costs you places.

That is a ranking decision rather than a verdict on her. Plenty of players choose Triss and are clear about why: after sixty hours in a world that is relentlessly hard on everyone in it, the person who is straightforwardly glad to see you is not a consolation prize. If what you want from a romance is relief, she is the right answer and this list is measuring the wrong thing for you.

4. Yennefer of Vengerberg

Difficult on purpose. Yennefer does not soften to make the romance more comfortable, does not reward you for turning up and is written as someone with her own project that predates you and outlasts you.

Most mainstream game romances are constructed to make the player feel chosen. The Witcher 3 wrote two adults who are hard work for each other. The result is the rare game relationship that reads as adult rather than as a reward track. Triss is at five because the same writers, in the same game, built the other kind of woman on purpose. The gap has nothing to do with quality. It is how much each of them is allowed to withhold.

3. Ciri

You play as her in her own sections, so her temperament and her fighting reach you directly instead of through somebody describing her. She is carrying two decades of being hunted and she is funny anyway, in a dry offhand way that catches you off guard the first time.

She outranks both of the women the game actually offers you. What people describe about Ciri is admiration: competence, self-possession, the fact that she does not need rescuing and knows it.

2. Lucia Caminos

Grand Theft Auto VI is not out until 19 November 2026, so this entry is provisional. It is a ranking built on trailers and a bet on Rockstar's writing.

The bet looks good. Lucia is the first fully voiced female lead in the series, introduced coming out of Leonida Penitentiary after fighting in defence of her family. The story is openly built on Bonnie and Clyde lines with Jason. The proposition is attraction through partnership, competence under pressure and hot self-presentation.

If Rockstar lands it she is the most interesting character in the top three. If the partnership turns out to be set dressing on a heist structure, she drops several places and this paragraph is the receipt.

1. Shadowheart

She lies to you when you meet her. She can decide she does not like you. The romance can simply fail, not as a punishment for picking wrong in a dialogue tree but because you were not the person she needed across sixty hours.

Everything attractive about Shadowheart is made out of accumulated conversation. The secrets come out on her schedule, the reversals land because you earned the setup and the version of her you end with is not the version anyone else ends with. Baldur's Gate 3 got closer than any other game to the thing that actually creates attachment, which is a character who is keeping track.
